Acadia and Me

“Acadia and Me” was written by well known artist, Wini Smart, to celebrate Acadia’s centennial. The artist visited Maine when still a teenager. and fell in love with the area. She has been painting in Acadia National Park since the 1960s and began the Smart Studio gallery, Northeast Harbor in 1967. Her work has been a celebration of the beauty found on Mount Desert Island and especially in Acadia National Park This book tells her story of discovering the area, then living on a houseboat with her children, beginning a gallery and becoming a well know artist. She adds a bit of history of the Park and of the early artists who originally discovered Mount Desert in the 1800s.

A Long, Long Way

“A Long, Long Way” is a lighthearted paperback autobiography by Wini Smart, published by Custom Museum Publishing in 2008. “Whiddens’s & Old Boca Grande – A Man, A Place and an Island”

This book is a history of a colorful man, Sam Whidden, who began a marina and dance hall about the same time Boca Grande was becoming a town. Written and illustrated by Wini Smart, it was published by Queen Anne Press in 2004. All sales benefit the museum, part of the still active Whidden’s Marina. The book contains many photos from the Whidden family and Wini Smart’s drawings and  paintings.  Paper back is $25.00 plus postage. A limited edition of hard cover copies are available for $35 plus postage.
